TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo Villa FC will hold an open tryout to give local talent an opportunity to earn roster spots for the 2018 men’s soccer season. The team will be hosting tryouts and practices at Total Sports Rossford on Sunday April 8. The two hour session will begin at 8 pm following a 7:30 pm sign in period. Interested participants must contact Chris Black at ToledoVillaFC18@gmail.com to register.

Toledo Villa FC will play in the Midwest Conference of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). The team will compete in the East Region against AAFC Lumberjacks, Carpathia FC, Muskegon Risers SC, Oakland County FC and USAi Old Bhoys (www.upslsoccer.com).

The Club has recently been acquired by a new ownership group.  Aaron Swiggum, David Hammack and Brett Stamats have joined with Pacesetter Soccer Club and Total Soccer of Wixom, LLC to purchase Toledo Villa FC.  The group has provided a capital infusion, and brings a wealth of financial expertise to the organization.

The new Toledo Villa FC ownership group has selected longtime area soccer coach and Soccer Industry Professional, Chris Black, to lead the transition and the day-to-day operations of the club.  A lifelong Northwest Ohio resident, Chris recently finished up his soccer coaching career spanning over 20 years of club, high school, ODP, and teaching USSF Licenses for OYSAN.  Chris has specialized in Sales, Marketing, and Consulting roles in the soccer market, including with Puma, Reebok, Uhlsport, and Hummel.  He will bring experience and contacts built while helping similar clubs across the country and activate them for Toledo Villa FC.  BCSN soccer broadcasts and Sports Nightly’s SideKicks segments will continue to feature Chris.

They have also engaged Danny Fisher, Jimmy Walker and Ryan McDonald as coaches.  Additional staff will be named at a later date. Danny originates from Staffordshire, England where he served as an Academy Coach at his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as additional English clubs.  Danny moved to the United States in 2006 to work for Major League Soccer Camps where he resided in Pittsburgh, PA.  During his time in Pittsburgh, Danny served as the Director of Coaching at Penn's Forest Soccer Club and also teamed up with Jimmy Walker on the coaching staff at Duquesne University.  Danny holds his UEFA B License as well as his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and serves as an Instructor for the NSCAA and USSF Courses.   Danny came to Pacesetter in 2008 and until recently, had been focused on developing the girls side of the club.  In January 2018, Danny was named Executive Director of Coaching for Pacesetter Soccer Club.

A Birmingham, England native, Jimmy Walker built an impressive playing and coaching career in the United States.  Jimmy was recently named University of Findlay Women’s Coach.  This comes after a brief hiatus from college endeavors, coaching at Penn State, Duquesne, and Tiffin.  He spent the eight years in between college coaching stints as the Executive Director of Coaching at the Pacesetter Soccer Club.  A Villa man through and through (Aston Villa), Jimmy is a natural fit for Toledo Villa FC.

Ryan McDonald is a goal-scoring, point-grabbing center back who brings experience and leadership to Villa’s backline this summer. Furthermore, he will serve as player-coach this year. McDonald is also the head coach of the Adrian College men’s soccer team.  McDonald was an accomplished collegiate player at the University of Louisville where, in his senior year, he led the team in goals scored and was second in overall points. After college, he played professional indoor soccer with the Louisville Lightning.
