TVFC outlast Dayton Dutch Lions to grab the 3 points

Toledo Villa FC opened their 2022 home slate with a win over Dayton Dutch Lions.  Goals from Zach Hassell and Zach Mowka were enough to power the squad.

The first half opened with Dayton Dutch Lions grabbing the initiative.  In the 4th minute, Teddy Kolesnikov bent a ball over the top to Joseph Kouadio.  He was able to wriggle away from Kazuki Hashimoto and slam a shot past Brendan Graves.

It wouldn't take long for Toledo to find the equalizer though.  A long ball was played to striker Zach Mowka.  He collected it, and played Zach Hassell into space down the line.  He turned the corner and drove at the near post.  His near post shot was too hot to handle and found it's way into the net to level the score.

Dayton's Kouadio continued to be a handful for the Toledo defense.  Off a throw in, he was able to flick the ball to Sem Plezier.  Plezier took the ball on the volley first time and narrowly went past the post.

Toledo was able to find room on the flanks throughout the day.  Eli Shope and Zach Hassell were able to get around their defenders on multiple occassions without finding the right shot to take the lead.  RIght before the half, Josh Hughes was played in behind.  His hard shot only found the outside of the post.

Just after halftime, Toledo found the go-ahead goal.  Eli Shope played a through pass into space for Mike Moser to attack.  He played a ball across the face of goal for Zach Mowka.  Dayton's Teddy Kolesnikov and Brady Shapiro collided with Mowka and ricocheted the ball into the goal.

The rest of the match was the Brendan Graves show.  In the 63rd minute, Dayton found themselves on the counter attack.  Noel Roman hit a shot from distance which took a deflection off Harper Cook.  The dipping shot was tipped over by Graves for a corner.

In the 82nd minute, Graves pulled off a huge double save.  Jeffrey Vasquez was played in behind the Toledo defense.  He cut the ball back for Sem Plezier, whose shot was blocked by Graves.  Dayton substitute Rashid Seidu-Aroza was there for the follow up, but Graves flung himself from the ground to tip the ball wide for a corner.

The last big block came in the final moments of the match.  A corner for Dayton brought everyone forward including goalkeeper Bryson Najarion.  The initial corner has partially headed clear by Savio Adams.  It eventually fell to the goalkeeper Najarion who rifled a shot at the far post.  Graves was at full stretch to tip the shot around the post.  The ref finally blew for full time  after the save.

Toledo won't have long to wait for their next match which will see them take on South Bend Lions at Paul Hotmer Field on Wednesday May 25th.
