Kings Hammer FC were able to score twice in 3 minutes in the second half to claim victory over Toledo.  The result was the third straight defeat for Toledo on the season.

The first half saw Toledo start in a new 3-5-2 formation for the first time this season.  It gave them a bit more defensive solidity and confidence to attack in the opening minutes.  In the 4th minute, Caleb Gibbons made a strong run down the left hand side.  He crossed for Mike Moser, who cut back, but bent his shot just wide of the far post.

In the 13th minute, Toledo would make the breakthrough.  Caleb GIbbons settled a throw-in on the left hand side.  He was able to turn and skip past Kings Hammer defender Ethan Garvey.  He played a telling pass to the feet of Zach Mowka, who was able to tap home from close range.  It was great to see the two Anthony Wayne grads combining on the goal.

Toledo continued to add pressure to the Kings Hammer defense.  In the 21st minute, after a good bit of passing between Gibbons and Moser, they sent the ball forward to Zach Mowka.  He laid the ball off to Caleb Gibbons, whose first touch was just too strong.  Kings Hammer goalkeeper Bryant Pratt came out and snuffed out the opportunity.

Much of the first half saw the Toledo defense bend but not break.  Hashimoto, Akpunonu, Albayeros, and Shope all made vital blocks on shots during the first half. Graves in goal made a few saves, but none were big opportunities.

Just before halftime, Caleb Gibbons almost extended the lead.  Pouncing on a loose ball in midfield, Mike Moser sent Caleb Gibbons in on goal.  His shot just rose too high and went over the goal.

The second half saw Toledo switch to a 4-4-2 diamond midfield.  This gave Kings Hammer lots of space on the flank to attack.  Kings Hammer were eventually able to make the breakthrough via a cross.

In the 66th minute, Kings Hammer was on the break.  Kings Hammer striker Mikkel Goling was making a nuisance of himself most of the match, and his hold up play helped set up the chance.  He got the ball wide and Kyle Healy eventually sent a cross to him at the backpost.  Harper Cook tried to reach it to head wide, but unfortunately steered it into the back of the net.  

Kings Hammer quickly grabbed the go-ahead goal.  A long throw from Ethan Garvey was not dealt with.  It was intended for Mikkel Goling but it went over his head.  It bounced in front of Rodrigo Albayeros, who was unable to clear.  The ball bounced and was met by  Kings Hammer midfielder Marcello Jones. He flicked it off the head of Joey Akpunonu and into the goal. 

Toledo's best chance to equalize came in the 76th minute.  A long free kick from Mike Moser was put on target.  Kings Hammer substitute goalkeeper Chad Smith had to be at full stretch to knock it around the post.

One last chance for Toledo came in the 86th minute.  Another Mike Moser free kick was headed outside the area.  It fell to Kazuki Hashimoto, but the shot went just wide.  

Toledo Villa will try to shake off their rut as they host Cleveland Force SC for the first time on Tuesday June 7.
