3 early goals leads FC Buffalo to 4-1 victory

Ander Castillo and FC Buffalo played rude hosts to start the 2024 campaign as visiting Toledo Villa fell 3-1 on Sunday evening.
Castillo scored early, added a second later on, and assisted on another to send Toledo to 0-0-1 to begin the season.

A 64th-minute goal from Toledo's Gijs Gijs Velings was a bright spot for Toledo in the defeat.

Velings' shot from midfield found the net to beat Buffalo (1-0-0) goalkeeper Andreas Kokoska, running his attempt at a clean sheet.
Buffalo's Ashton Jell put a cross into Castillo who went in low and in front of Toledo keeper Sabastian Doppelhofer to redirect the ball into the net in the 11th minute to give Buffalo the early lead.

Nine minutes later Timo Jansen whipped in a corner kick that bounced around inside the box before falling to the feet of Fabian Overkamp who slotted it home to make it 2-0 just 20 minutes in.

Just three minutes after that, Toledo mishandled the ball which led to a 2v1 attempt with Ander Castillo keeping the ball himself to get it past Doppelhofer and giving the home team a commanding lead at 3-0 at the half.

After Velings' goal in the 64th, Castillo released into the right flank and turned the corner before firing a cross that Matheus Spina turned in with his back leg for the final goal of the evening.

Toledo heads to Bishop D'Arcy Stadium in Fort Wayne, Indiana for its second match of the season on Saturday, May 25 before beginning its home campaign on Wednesday, May 29 in a rematch with FC Buffalo.
